Why I paint with Watercolors: The Journey
I'm not much of a writer. Honestly, I'd rather be holding a brush than typing on a keyboard. But I think it would be a disservice from me to not converse directly with my followers and to share with you how and why I came to love watercolors. So here is my story of how I stumbled into watercolor, and why I stuck around.
The start of it
My relationship with creativity has always been there, for as long as I can remember.
I was born in Jeddah, and every day after school, I'd rush to the gates where women vendors sat along the pavement with baskets full of merchandise. While most kids were drawn to the snacks and sweets, I was captivated by the colored pencils and coloring books. It was fascinating and beautiful.
Sometimes, after a bit of pleading, my mom would give me one or two riyals, and if I was lucky, I'd get to buy a new coloring book. I would spend hours with it, completely immersed in filling each page. There was always at least one sheet in my school notebook scribbled with a drawing.
But it wasn't until high school that I truly discovered my love for painting and more specifically, my love for watercolors.
And I was hooked.

Why watercolor stuck?
When I took Art as a subject in my A-Levels, I was introduced to a range of mediums like oils, acrylics, pastels, inks, and, of course, watercolors. While I enjoyed exploring them all, watercolor quickly became my favorite.
It's not always easy and it can be unpredictable, even frustrating. You have to find that delicate balance between control and chaos. It's about allowing the pigment to flow freely, but also learning how to guide it when needed. Still, when it works, watercolor is magical. You feel it when the flow is just right.

Where has it taken me?
Since then, I've created dozens of pieces, refined my process, and built a small body of work I'm proud of. My style is still evolving (probably always will be), but there's a thread that runs through it: a love for light, texture, and the quiet moments found in life and nature.
What's next?
So this is the start of the blog. I'll be sharing more about my process, the materials I use, things I've learned, and probably some failures too. I don't have a perfect plan, but if you're into watercolor or just curious about an artist's life you're welcome here.
If you want to see what I've been working on, feel free to check my socials. And if you ever have questions, or just want to say hi, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for reading.
Lots of love,
Abeer
